Re 2004:

Dear Daneline,
Thankyou for getting back to me. I was quite shocked to hear what has been going on and that so many pups died. Our dealings with this woman was a number of years ago, I think around April 2004. We went to see Molly, a fully grown deaf female great dane after seeing an ad in the local paper, free to good home. The number was a Telford number, I rang and was told that this woman wasn't the one who had the great danes and that is when I was put in touch with Mrs Whitehouse. I remember thinking it was odd that the woman that had the dog had not given her contact details in the ad, but still in our conversation I was told that Molly had already been rehomed so I left it at that. Then 2 weeks later I was contacted again and told that Molly's rehoming had not happened and were we still interested, so off we went. Initially when we got there we couldn't see any danes at all but the place was a state, very run down. We weren't shown around but straight into her front room where her dog and Molly were. I went with my partner and my mother, we spoke whether Molly had been spayed to which Val went on to say about being able to breed from her, none of us remember exactly what was said but do remember being concerned that anyone would consider this as the poor dog was deaf. We were happy to take Molly away from there, we left with her and Val gave us some meat that she used to feed the dogs with from her freezer, that Molly was used to, which I had to say we got rid of immediately, it was disguisting and most definately off we certainly wouldn't have fed it to her. When we were leaving the other danes had been let out into a pen and we assume that they had been shut in the outbuildings which looked in a bad state. We remember there being quite a few danes and thinking that how awful it must be for them if thats the only place they had to go. We got the impression that she was so concerned with breeding and making money that their didnt seem to be any love or care there for the dogs. This is the impression that all 3 of us came away with and was glad that Molly was away from it but have to say that was only our own opinions. Their living conditions were not great from what we could see, they looked extremely basic and dirty/muddy but as I said we never got to look around the place properly and was glad to be from there. I only wish you all the best with this, if there is anything I can do to help the cause then please let me know. Please keep us posted and good luck
All the best,
Chris Vagg

Re 2006:

"We looked at 15 pups back in August 2006 when they were approximately 5 weeks old. Our first impression wasn't good. Val Whitehouse kept the puppies in a dark room to the side of her kitchen I think. The place was dirty with lots of flies everywhere and I thought the pups looked very small for their age. They were very weak and could hardly walk.

Because we wanted a Harli we went back a second time which was approximately a week later. Nothing had changed. It seemed as if they had never got any bigger and none of them could stand up properly or walk. We were all put off by the state of them all. I must admit none of it looked good and was not shocked when she called me a couple of days later saying she was losing them."
